Immediately after I got saved, God spoke to me in a dream concerning my calling with very clear and specific words. To me, that came as a conclusion to all the prophecies I had received right from birth concerning my calling.
After I got baptised in the Holy Spirit, dreams of God speaking to me with audible male voice was frequent, like everyday for the first two months. I really enjoyed this and was like, "LORD, let it continue this way", but it didn't. Six months went by after my Baptism in the Holy Spirit and these dreams kept diminishing till they were no more.
I was confused and sad at the same time. After much nagging in the name of prayers, the LORD spoke once again through a dream and made me understand I was treated like the baby I was because I just got saved, accepted the call and got baptised in the Holy Spirit. He made it clear that, "that wasn't all of it. You need to learn to hear My voice even while you're awake". It seemed for some time, I was sent into a hardship of 'no communication'. I prayed a lot and waited for the LORD to speak to me like He always did, through dreams, but I only ended up frustrated because that didn't happen for a long time. What He expected of me was to get into the Word and learn to hear Him through His Word. This is one of the primary means through which God speaks to every genuine believer.
Ever stumbled on a bible verse at a time when you needed it such so much and it seemed like God sat right there speaking to you? It's as real as that. Every genuine believer has that inherent ability to hear God (John 10:27). But first means through which we must learn to hear His voice after our salvation is through His Word. Chasing after Prophets isn't advisable. The Word is the primary and one of the most vital means through which we can hear God for themselves. Even when a believer grows, they need a good knowledge of the Word to be able to discern between the voice of God, that of enemy and self. There are times when God chooses not to speak to us through any other means apart from the Word. Every Believer who neglects the Word may end up in frustration, confusion and deception in seasons when they do not hear God through the means they are used to. In such seasons, nothing much is expected of us than to study the Word, believe, meditate, confess it and pray.
