The Great Commission

I woke up with a tugging in my spirit this morning. The LORD had reminded me once again (during the night) concerning the urgent need to go fishing for lost souls.

All current events unfolding before our eyes all point to the nearness of the end of this age. But what does the LORD expect of us in such a season as this? Is it for us to just watch and pray, while looking forward to the rapture of the Church and His second coming? That's definitely part of it, but not all.

I'm saddened whenever I see the unsaved talking about end times alongside Christians. It's likely they do not grasp the severity of the coming judgment. They all make fun out of it and go about their own business. It's unfortunate that they don't understand, just like Noah's generation.

    Luke 17:26-29 KJV
And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. [27] They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. [28] Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; [29] But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.

The enemy of their souls has blinded their eyes. But that is one of the reasons why the Church is still here; to open the eyes of the spiritually blind, innocent and unsaved ones and show them the way to the LORD.

As Christians, we are here to warn the world of the danger of being left behind, judgment and eternal separation from God. We are here to reconcile many back to The Father through Christ before the Creator folds up this age.

    Meaning of The Great Commission

    Matthew 28:18-20 KJV
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. [19] Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: [20] Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

The Great Commission is like a two-sided coin; the first is Evangelism while the second is Discipleship. After salvation comes Discipleship. We can't have the second without the first.

Late 2017 the Lord spoke to me specifically concerning the Great Commission. He said that Evangelism is of more importance than every other form of ministry. Souls have to get saved first before we can even think of inviting them to church and getting them in the Sunday school. By-passing salvation to do the others is toxic; it only ends up producing religious people who know some facts about God but neither truly know nor have a connection with Him.

I've personally come across people who have been out of the Bible School and can preach almost perfect messages, but once they drop their Bibles they put on their real self and go about living like every unsaved person out there.

The point is that Discipleship is ineffective on lost souls. And for that reason, evangelism must be given top priority.

Who Should Be Involved in The Great Commission?

The Great Commission is a general Calling and Assignment on every genuinely saved soul. It is not only for those who are labelled "Evangelist" by people and their local church. Every true Christian is an Evangelist and must get involved in fulfilling the Great Commission.
    Acts 1:8 KJV
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

    2 Timothy 4:5 KJV
But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

Our local churches should get fully involved in going out to win souls for Christ. This is not a thing of going out to lure more sinners to church, because in the first place, that doesn't work. Bringing many sinners who dress nice and come to service to pay tithes and give collections while they remain that way is an indication that we haven't added to the Kingdom. Instead, we've added to our denomination.

    The Great Commission Concerns You

    ●  The LORD Himself has sent us forth. What's left is for us to obey. Since we are sent we have to do it. That should flow out of our love for the LORD, a mind and heart like His and our desire to see souls saved.

    John 20:21 KJV
Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

    ●  The Reward Is Great. While we're still here we can't number the rewards nor grasp with our finite minds how great they will be, but we sure know that they'll be greater than anything we ever had on Earth.

    Daniel 12:3 KJV
And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

    Start Getting Involved Today

I believe the first step is to start from our relationship with the LORD. The Great Commission is not for those who still have personal issues to sort out with God. If we have an healthy and genuine relationship with Him, that is an head-start. We also need to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Then He'll use us to win souls and to touch and change lives.

A Christian doesn't have to wait until they know the Bible from Genesis to Revelation before they can start winning souls. Starting with the Scriptures we know and studying more to build oneself up daily is the way forward. Preaching is different from teaching. It's easier to preach and that's what sinners need. A preaching centered on Christ will save many souls.

    Final Words

I believe every Christian wants to hear a "well done, good and faithful servant" from the LORD on the last day. He has sent us forth and time is short. We can't keep waiting and giving excuses. By the power of the Holy Spirit, Let's go on the Great Commission!
