Due to this very reason, those Nigerian parents who can afford the bills of these faith-based schools choose to enrol their children to church-owned universities in the country.
The Church in Nigeria has consistently played her role as the source of light in the nation. Despite hues and cries about the emergence of private universities, it is an irony that most public universities are persistently go on strike while church owned ones are functional. Presently some of the best universities in the nation are run by Nigerian Churches.
The impact of Christian Universities in Nigeria are not very apparent at the moment; however, from the look of things, it is safe to say that in at least a decade from now, Christian Universities in Nigeria will be outstanding in all ramifications.
Universities need adequate funding in order to be maintained and carry out research activities among others. Presently most public universities in Nigeria are grappling with these so much that there are plans to increase public university fees to about N250,000 per student while provision would now be made for student loans to be repaid at 5 per cent interest. This was the exact reason why Nigerian faith-based universities were criticized from the onset.
Of present, there are approximately 79 approved private universities out of a total 169 universities in Nigeria, 39 of which are Christian Universities. A further 15 are in different stages that would culminate to their approval.
